The week the heavens opened.

Okay this week was CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY AMAZING! I hope I can relate it all with such a short time.

1. the miralce named Felipe
-So there´s this food truck in our area that Sister Meneses and I are kinda obsessed with that makes the best hamburgers. One day we were there before heading back to the house and we began to talk to this man who was having a hard time deciding what hamburger he would choose. As the good people that we are, we gave him the suggestion of what we liked best, invited him to visit church and left a pass along card with him. We didnt think much of the invite as he had talked about how he was Muslim and studied religion. About two weeks after we received a referral and we found the hosue and knocked on the door... to find Felipe, the man who accepted not only our suggestion for hamburgers but to visit the church. He began to count the story of how he entered mormon.org and talked to a missionary there for more than an hour and watched every video that the church has to offer. When we went to teach him about the Restoration the next day, he had already memorized the story and had already prayed to know if it was true. HE´S INCREDIBLE. Sometimes we leave our lessons waiting for Ashton Kutcher to turn around the corner and say we´ve been pranked. Felipe is preparing to be baptized next week so TBC....

2. the miracle of Brasilia
Sunday morning, we had the privilege to hear our beloved prophet speak to us. He announced 5 new temples... what a huge blessing. The love you have for a companion on the mission, is something that I cant put into words. Have you ever imgained what a face of pure happiness looks like? President Monson slipped out the first temple.... BRASILIA, BRASIL. Which is... the hometown of my companion. Tears streamed down her face and shortly after mine too, as I realized that she too would have a piece of heaven in her hometown.

3. the miracle of planting seeds
About a year ago, I met a family so so sweet. I was in my training with Sister Souza. I remember trying to spit out Portuguese in our lessons. I had total certainty that this family would be baptized. Later on, the mom said she didnt want to recieve our messages anymore. I never felt so defeated. It was definiately a hard day. Yesterday, here on the other side of Fortaleza, one of these young woman that I had taught, ran up to me and hugged me. I found out that she had moved away and was now living with her grandmother who let her be baptized. She remembered my name and everything. Of course I was a ball of tears because WHAT ARE THE ODDS!

So this week was incredible. Of course each week in incredible on the mission but sometimes theres those weeks that keep you going, Im so grateful that this miracles still exist and that these miracles continue to happen for the next 10 weeks. I love the gospel. This church is true.

The Challenge To Become

Monday, March 27, 2017

https://www.lds.org/ensign/2000/11/the-challenge-to-become.p1?lang=eng

This week, I had the privilege to read a talk that changed me forever. And I want to invite all to read this talk too and see what each of us need to do to BECOME who we need to become.

A mission (and life) is a place where we are expected to change. When a missionary comes homes everyone remembers them as the kid who left to a foreign land and then suddenly they come home adults and completely changed (okay, maybe not REAAAAAL ADULTS). What happens in that period of 18/24 months?

I wouldn't say I'm completely changed because I still don't know how to cook, I still am one of the goofiest people there are, and I ate potato chips for breakfast BUT the Lord has changed me spiritually in ways that I can't express my gratitude for Him. I love this part of the talk. It says "It is not even enough for us to be convinced of the gospel; we must act and think so that we are converted by it. In contrast to the institutions of the world, which teach us to know something, the gospel of Jesus Christ challenges us to become something."

The gospel of Jesus Christ has changed me and saved me in ways that are countable. And because of the gospel, I love being here on the mission. Its a love that I have SO SO big in my heart. To see others feel how I feel, to BECOME, is something that I´ll never forget.  It´s a weekly analization I do with myself....
When was the last time I was changed? When was the last time I become something of my Savior that I didn't have before?
Because isn't that what we are here to do in this life? To become someone greater than we were? I know that if we let the Savior into our lives, open the door wide open for Him, and we are willing to become, we will be.

Hello family and friends!! Can you believe that March is ending?? I marked my entire planner this week as Feb. and my companion died laughing. NO ONE TOLD ME IT WAS MARCH. Time passes so quickly.
Anyways this week was kinda cray cray. Sadly, one of the sisters we were with had to go home because of health issues so now little Sister Myers is with two other sisters and 2 HUGE areas. Sometimes I catch myself thinking, Presidente, a litle less trust would be great. BUT the Lord is always giving us new chances to grow and for that I am so grateful.
It was a hard week to say goodbye to this sister... I truly felt the love our Heavenly Father has to us. When she couldnt sleep, neither could I. And of course she couldnt cry without Sister Myers in a ball of tears with her. But it strengthened my testimony of the pure pure love Heavenly Father has for us. I´ve been reading the book of Alma in the Book of Mormon, specifically about how these old missionaries were painfully hurt when they could see iniquity in their brothers. And they passed all of their days preaching and serving and preaching and serving just to save one precious soul. I love this work, more than anything in this world. I love my mission, theres nothing else I want to do no matter the trials, the heartaches, the difficulties. I want to stay here forever (sorry mom) and preach this sweet gospel... even if its just to save one soul.

A special testimony

Officially 14 months out on the mission!

My apologies my dear friends and family for not writing last week... I would have like to write but EVERYTHING IS BRAZIL WAS SHUT DOWN. So last week was Carnaval. I imagined the movie "Rio" with those blue birds that fall in love. If you have not seen this film, its a much watch. I watched it about a thousand times before I came to Brazil thinking it would be just like that. Turns out that Carnaval in the movie really only happens in big cities like Rio de Janiero and Sao Paulo. But everyone left the city to go to the beautiful beaches of the Nordeste. Long story short, no one was here. Literally no one. I´ve never talked to so many dogs and cats in my life. And all the computer places were shut down so I couldnt email.

This week I completed one of my mission goals... I finished reading "Jesus the Christ" by James E. Talmage. As I was preparing for my mission, I was doing my bags and I mentioned for my mom that we had to buy this book because it was on the list for the mission. My dad had mentioned that we already had a copy. Little did I know that this copy, was the same copy that my dad took on his own mission.  As I began to read (and finally finish), I would like to bear my testimony of my Savior, Jesus Christ.  As a representative of Him, I have the privilege to show the love, compassion, and patience that He has for my brothers and sisters here in Fortaleza. This is a special testimony that I can give only for a little bit longer...

I began to write in English but my mind wouldnt let me remember the right words. But I hope you can all still feel the peace and love that I feel when I can write or talk about my Savior.

Angels in Brazil

Monday, February 20, 2017

Hello dear family and friends. This week has been full of crazy experiences. One that I´d like to share with all of you.
Sister Andrade and I were leaving a member´s house, and as we turned the corner there were two young men, on a motorcycle. If you live in Fortaleza, two young men on a moto is always a bad sign. We turned the corner one got off the back of the motorcycle and asked (actually he actually yelled with force, which was not appreciated) for our cellphones. As missionaries in Brazil, we dont have iphones, we dont even have a fancy android, or an iPad like the rest of the world. We walk to pamphlets, Bible, and Book of Mormon. We sweetly explained that we were missionaries and that we had nothing. He looked over my companion, and seeing that she really had nothing, came over to me and grabbed my planner and asked what it was. This planner has a picture of my family on the back and I responded "Its my eternal family! And you can have one too. Come to church with us this week and we can explain how you can have an eternal family!" And he ran off, alittle upset and went on his way.
I was a little shocked with myself that I managed to contact a robber and share a little testimony of eternal families. Sadly, he didn´t show up to the church on Sunday but I know I planted a seed in his life. This week I´ve reflected alot about my own eternal family.  Sometimes we have to be thousands of miles away to appreciate what we have. Each of my parents have gone through the impossible to give me the gospel and an eternal family. I will never understand exactly what they had to go through but I know without a doubt that it wasnt easy, and it wont be easy for any one of us to have our families forever but thats a challenege I´m more than willing to take. And that´s a huge reason why I chose to be a missionary. Because I dont know how to do what my parents did for me yet, but beingon the mission is the best training I could get. I love my family and Im so grateful that they are mine forever. There is no better message than this one: OUR FAMILIES CAN BE TOGETHER FOREVER.

PS no one freak out, I do live in Brazil but I have angels protecting me.

Big Spirits

Tuesday, February 14, 2017

Hello family and friends... I dont have much time today but I´d like to share a thought that has stayed in my mind this week. I had the privilege of having my interview with President Bonini. I went into the interview with a head full of stuff passing through my mind. A missionary goes into freak out mode when you start to realize how fast time really does pass by. And you look at the time the Lord has given you and you´re like "WHAT I GOT HERE YESTERDAY!!". Then you look down at your tan marks and realize you´re a whole other race now and that in fact you did not get here yesterday.
But President said something to me that made my heart swell... "Sister Myers, you are small in stature but your spirit is big.". I got a little teary eyed, I wont lie. I just want to say that living the gospel gives you a light that you wont find in any other place. And this light will help you touch the lives of others and thats why I love the mission. I wouldn't want to be in any other place than Fortaleza, Brazil.

Boa semana meus amores.
Sister Myers

Um ano e pouco

Monday, February 6, 2017

One question that never gets old on the mission field is "how much time do you have in the mission field?". Actually, it doesn´t get old until you start to get old in the mission field. Today I´ve officailly hit over the year mark. It´s funny because you dont ever feel old on the mission; I feel like I got here yesterday. You know why? Because the feelings you have when you bring a soul to Christ, are the same awesome feelings that you had from the very frist day in the field.

This week I got to feel that sweet spirit as we baptized Andre and Cristiane. Andre has been an investigator of the church for 2 years. My companion and I decided to pass by his house in the beginning of the transfer to see where he was in his conversion. I was shocked over and over again by his willingness to commit to the challenges that we left for him. He accepted a baptism date, that was originally really difficult for him to do with the other missionaries. I´ve seen a light come into his life these past 4 weeks. As he walked out of his baptismal interview. the elder that did his interview said "thats gonna be a great priesthood holder one day". I was so happy to see him finally enter into the waters of baptism. He´s a dad of two daughters. One day I hope the rest of his family will eventually accept the gospel.

And my sweet, sweet Cristiane. Last transfer, Cristiane went up to the chapel and saw some kids playing in the front (which is super common her in Brazil because every night the chapel opens up its soccer quadro). She asked a member what she ahs to do to visit the church. The other sisters were passing her house but she was never home. When I got into the area, the other sisters still hadn´t seen her. With luck, and help from the Lord, we finally got to teach her. And without a doubt, she is one of the elects. She has a soon that has a disorder(i dont know waht its called in english) and was so touched by the Plan of Salvation and to know her son will be perfect one day. She already has big plans to enter into the temple. Her bus route to college passes by the construction of the Fortaleza temple everyday.

I love this sweet gospel and Im so grateful for the privilege I have to share it.
